The hot sun beateth down my path

Yesterday I set out for my 12 miler. Yea, got to six miles and about passed out. I finished with about 8.2, and I was COOKED. I hadn't realized it was going to be SO hot when I took off, though I had my gu and a water bottle. I got to mile five and was starting to get a little lethargic. I slugged along and stopped to take my gu at mile six. This was the worst idea, once I stopped my knee locked up and wouldn't go much farther at all. I knew I would have to throw in the towel and resort to my sit ups back home. My knee is still giving me issues! It's the weirdest thing ever. Also my big toe has a huge blood blister on it. Disgusting. Then last night as I'm getting ready for bed I realized I have an AWFUL tank top tan from my run. Wow, lobster red too. I'm a wreck right now!

Tomorrow morning I'm going to try to go for seven again and see how I feel and then take it from there. Mr. R helped me figure out something to tape on my knee to try to help it when I run, he thinks it's some kind of tendinitis. My toe, well that is a whole different issue, but hopefully with time that little beast will get better.

Last night Mr. R and I walked along the pier down the street from my house.

Yea, you can say that I love where I live.

Also, about my last rant that I like to refer to as the Target post. I've contacted them twice concerning the bad service that I've received and they said, well, sorry, and that was that. Their attitudes made me think that it wasn't even a big deal that I was being treated so poorly. I will never give up on my love for Target, but I will go in there with a different mindset, especially after being treated so poorly at so many different targets.

Yes, I also finally found my lovechild I called the Vizio 22 inch flat screen. I had searched far and wide using the check stock online button (which failed me numerous times) and called a bunch of stores. It was at a weird hidden Target store, but they had it. I called them to check the stock, and they said they had one left. I raced over to the store. Oddly, the guy who was helping me said, oh yea, we have one in stock right now, do you want to wait for me to get it from the stock room or not. YES! I will wait, what kind of question is that? Oh well, the TV is now in my room and I can watch all my shows from the comfort of my bed. Like last night, how I fell asleep watching the World Series of Poker Final Tournament in Europe. Sadly, I just admitted that.

This week I am continuing on getting toned and also getting my mileage back up and hoping that I can finally get rid of this knee pain once and for all. Also this weekend I have a 25k trail run up in Malibu that I'm really looking forward too. Should be fun!

xoxo

Is it just me or does your blogroll not work anymore since you changed it up?

Good job.

You should try some one leg chair squats to help strengthen you knees.

I would trade your awkward tan lines for the 6 inches of snow we have right now any day of the week!

Wish I was able to get a tan this weekend instead of the snow! Hope your knee feels better, injuries are awful! Good luck on your trail run this weekend!

Good luck on your next run! On the blisters note....what kind of socks are you wearing when you run? And have you tried putting Vaseline on your feet before putting your socks on? I do that and haven't had blisters in 3 years (with the exception of one long run a few weeks ago - and I didn't use Vaseline.) Anyway. It's an idea :)

Ack, hope your knee gets better! So glad to hear you found your TV as well. Thanks for sharing the picture - it looks amazing out there!

I feel your pain -- if I stop on a run, I just can't get started again.

Enjoy that hot sun -- it's freezing here in KY!

Wow...what time did you get started yesterday? Our trail club started the run at 7am and it was already warm out. By the end of it, I was dying. It was definitely a hot one.

Get that knee checked out if it keeps bothering ya. I'll see ya on Sunday for Malibu Creek - woo hoo!

HAHAHHA!!! Your comment made me pee a little. HAHAHA. You are too much! No no pasty posts, I told you I was excluding all the intimate moments. ;)

I kinda recount it all for myself. Thinkin' about printing these pages out one day once the whole deployment is done. I love keeping track of memories. Especially the good ones. :)

How was your run?? Can't wait to hear about it!!

Are you serious?!? They just said "sorry" and that's it? Dannnnggg that's pretty crappy. Most places will give you a coupon or something. Bleck! I'm going to go punch them int he face for you ;-)

You may have already tried this, but since you always seem to get blisters on your long runs I thought I would suggest it.

Have you ever gone in to get a professional running shoe fitting? It doesn't cost you anything, but you do have to run back and fourth across the sales floor a few times, but they look at your stride and determine what the best shoe is for you. Also they will recommend the best sock for you (especially important if you get blisters on the top of your foot), and show you how to lace your shoes and put on your socks.

I know it sounds silly, I mean everyone knows how to put on socks and lace up shoes, but actually it's quite informative, and since I did mine last fall I have not gotten one single blister anywhere on my feet from a run (high heels are of course a different story).

If there is a Fleet Feet anywhere near you that's a great store to try, but any specialized running store should be able to help!

So glad that you got the TV.

I'm having problems with my knees too. My 24Lift instructor who is also a marathoner, training for Boston, said that I need to do yoga or pilates to stretch out more.

I'm sweating just thinking about that run. Good idea to stop if you were feeling like that.

Good luck with your knee!

8.2 miles is pretty awesome, considering! And I think I would love where you live too. Keep up the fantastic training & take care of yourself as well! Oh - and I'm so glad you found your tv!

What's up with the knee. Do you think maybe you should go to the doctor if it has been bothering you for a while?

We've had a few complaints at our Target and they've acted the same way. But like you, I can't give up on them. It's too bad.

Who wouldn't want to live there??!!!

Sorry about the Target experience. Now that you have your TV maybe you can boycot for awhile.

Also, blisters stink, try duct tape. It comes right off in the shower, despite what others might tell you. It's a little weird but it works, most of the time, for me.

Sorry to hear your run sucked but I can't help but be jealous that it's so nice where you are that you got tan lines from your tank top! I'm still battling freezing rain, snow and ice on my runs!!

the sun was killer this weekend - it completely wiped me out too. A few weeks to acclimate and the heat won't be a problem any more, right?

Glad to hear you found your perfect tv, and that it as worth all the work!

ode to sunshine...i would take it over the bitter cold..and did you just say malibu, I thought people only went there on tv. i should come live in your back yard, I think I could rough it..except for the camping and lack of shower and all that.

Hi! Great blog - you are quite the inspiration! I'm working to get back into running. Only at 4 miles right now, but want to do a half marathon eventually! Hope you don't mind if I follow your blog :)

Yay, glad you found your TV!!

Love the pics of your 'hood, but sorry it was so hot. That's what happens in LA! Fret not, as I have sent you a rain storm from up here in NorCal to cool it down. You're welcome!

I'm gonna be in LA in late March...fancy a run??

Yeah, it looks beautiful there.

We got 9in of snow today.

Sigh.

Ummm...its tough to run in the hot sun. I feel your pain. As for your knees, I hoping it heals well by tomorrow or the next day.

And yes, you do live in a beautiful part of the country. We all in the northeast are jealous!

WhAt?? Me?? LOL Flat stomach? Wow thanks! Honestly, my stomach is the part of my body I like most. I have a LONG torso and it helps... A LOT. I have never really had to worry much about that area, however, I did 100 crunches on a stability ball every day for about 2-3 months before we went! =) That's my "secret" that on top of the running I was doing then... only about 1-2 miles at that point tho! Now you give me tips on how to run 8 miles! You will be at 12 before you know it!!!

Yeah for finding your t.v.!

Sorry your knee has been bothering you. Don't over do it and make it worse.

Beautiful view!

Yay for a new TV! Chris and I have a Vizio and we love it. TV is just the best ... :)

PS: I went to Target yesterday and was angry at them in your honor.

Hope you have a better run. It is only going to make it up to 32 today, ut by the end of the week in the 70's. It is pure craziness.

Unknown said...

Great pic, that's really gorgeous. I hope your knee and toe are feeling better today. Target is like the snobby girl in school, people still love her even if she is mean to them...I could never give up Target either.

Um, can you send some of that warm weather over to the east coast, please?

Really nice pic!

I have really bad ITB in my left knee and even though I do everything I am told, it still locks up now and then. Always the worst on a race day!

BTW- over here in Jersey and I am so jealous of your HOT weather. I would, at this point, appreciate anything over 40. Brrr.

Tasha said...

That pic is beautiful! What an amazing place to live! Congrats on running 8.2 miles! That is a great distance even though it wasn't what you intended! Hope the knee feels better.

Danika, you are seriously hilarious! =) I am reading this in class (because I am super bored, and I am laughing out loud)! Haha! =) PS. I watch poker on TV too, how sad! =)

life is rough, a tanktop tan in march! i am finding it a little hard to feel sorry for you. ;-)

i can't believe you are still going to shop at target! i would probably have written them off by now, but i know they do have good deals and actually cute (and cheap) clothes. i'm also not shy about cutting people or things out of my life, and you might have a bigger heart than me :)
