Shiny Wonderful Goodness

I am sick. Boo. Sore throat = no running because sore throat limits breathing. I think this is because of my wonderful run the other night, when I was so cold but felt so good. Yuck. I will be better soon though, especially for this weekend's 1/2! I will be hitting up the gym tonight and maybe coughing on everyone and getting them sick too. I kid. I kid. Onto my new obsession.

So I want shiny hair. I try to take crazy intense care of my hair. I get it trimmed every 7 weeks. I wash it twice and condition it once. I try not to "over wash it". I try not to straighten it too much, which is kind of hard because I do have naturally curly hair. And then there's working out. Working out which kills my hair because I run so much, and I sweat and my hair gets really dirty, gritty and gross. I also have a TON of hair and it grows like crazy, which I'm totally okay with. Washing my hair as much as I do because of working out though has begun to take it's toll on the shiny fluffy full factor that I used to have when I was a little bit rounder from not working out and eating Twinkies all day.

Hey my hair was looking pretty good even if my waist wasn't!

Anyways, I have been looking for something to replenish the shine. I have tried jojoba oil and it made my hair a greasy mess, since for some reason my hair likes to keep oil in it. I also tried some stuff from Herbal Essences and Treseme and both helped make my hair softer but nothing was replacing the shine that I was missing. I wish I could buy much more expensive products for my hair, but alas, spending over 10 dollars for hair products that will be washed out the next day is a little ridiculous to me. So then I read about the John Frieda Shine Collection.

I hoped this new find would be what finally would perk up my limp locks. I went and got it at Target where it was around 8 dollars. I read the directions and found out you are suppose to use it after a conditioner and leave it on while showering and then rinse it out. Once a week you can also use it for 20 minutes and get extreme shine. I used it once for three minutes while in the shower and let me tell you, my hair hasn't looked this good in a long time. It's soft, smooth and SUPER shiny. I couldn't believe the results myself.

Random but true. So shine on.

Tomorrow will be full of any deals I can find and maybe I will find some cool people at the gym to discuss. :)

xoxo

I love reviews like this. I'm way lazy about getting my hair cut, which is odd since every time I do cut it I'm like, "I looooove a fresh hair cut! I'm never waiting this long again!" (4 months later, I'm biting off slit-ends at my desk in the middle of the day.)

FAIL

I use John Frieda shampoo. Not for shine but I use the colour ones that he has because it really brings out my red hair! I love it!

I do not take nearly as good of care of my hair as you do. I get it trimmed on a regular basis because it's short and looks GROSS if I don't, but I straighten, blowdry and wash it wayyy too much! Good for you for being so good to your hair :-)

I was having good luck with Redken shampoo for shine but since it's expensive I stopped using it...I'll have to check out John Frieda. I am growing my hair out for my wedding and it's way too long, I can't wait to cut it!!

I use Purology, which is expensive but I don't use that much since it's soooo good. I also use Paul Mitchell's shine serum, which helps with breakage and leaves some shine too.

Are you going to post a picture of your shiny new hair?

Sorry you're sick! Feel better. I can't believe you're sick and still going to the gym, I'd go home and sleep.

my hair twin - long, fast growing, thick, partially naturally curly :)

i havent had my hair trimmed in months :( i was good for a while but my hairdresser was too $$ and i just havent gone to a new one yet. i cant stay away from the daily straightening during the week though, my hair just doesn't do well without it.

This sounds gross, but fish oil supplements REALLY make a difference in my hair and skin. My best friend takes them also, and her hair is SO shiny, it makes me sick.

I might get a Claude...to motivate me to keep up the running! Right now I can barely run a quarter mile without dying. Sad! Gonna keep at it though!

Oh and PS I'm so going to buy some of that!

Well that's good to know. All the washing is taking a toll on my shine too. Glad the new stuff worked for you.

Huh...maybe I'll have to try that one out! I've been looking for a change.

Thanks for the info
I'm a hair shine freak too. In the past I've spent mucho dinero on hair products. But now that I'm on a budget again, I'll be back at Target for my hair care. I'll check this out - fo sho.

Ugh... sorry you're sick -- I must say my reasons for being sad about getting sick do not include "Because I can't run" :)

Another great way to help your hair is to take prenatal vitamins - I just discovered this... you don't have to be prego to take them! and they do wonders for your hair! LOL

That's awesome! I'm always hesitant to try hair stuff cause I hate wasting money on it and have it not work. Thanks!

I was going to suggest Smoothing by Paul Mitchell "super skinny serum"... It is AMAZING. My hair dresser got it for me at discount so i only paid 10 bucks for it. But if John Frieda works for you, thats great too!!

Sorry your sick! I might have to try that John Frieda Shine collection!! Thanks for the find!

I always slack on getting my hair cut. I usally let it grow than cut it short, let it grow, cut it etc. Hope you feel better.

Biosilk Silk Therapy Serum works WONDERS!!!! No twinkies needed!

Seriously, I have super dry hair and whenever I put it in, my hubbs swears there's a huge difference.

And that's saying a LOT considering men NEVER notice changes in hair. ;)

That sounds so cool - I might have to make a special trip to Target this weekend and get some. My hair always seems to break easily from wearing it up so much for workouts.

You have curly hair?! I think all the pics I've seen are with your hair straight!

Feel better soon!!

I'm sick too. No running. This sucks. I've been fighting it for 2 weeks, including a 12 mile long run and semi-consistent gym running. Being a teacher SUCKS for cold germs!

The Aveda shine stuff works amazing and well worth the price tag. It lasts so much longer too since you don't need to use that much so it's actually worth it to just buy one bottle a year at $15 than 5 bottles of the $6. I'm still rockin the bottle I bought last year Feb.

I am on a mission to grow my hair, but it always gets dull so I cut it. I think I'll go to WalMart or Target today and try this. I hope you're feeling better!

Ooohhh girl, you and me too! I don't think I'll be running for the rest of the week. Bleck!

You're hair already looks shiny to me?! Are you on crack? LOL

I'm going to give the JF a try. Thanks for the recommendation. It could use a face lift.

Thanks for the tip! My friend has amazing hair that she only washes every 4 days but then, she doesn't run. I have to wash my hair every day after running and the wear and tear is awful! I end up trying stuff from Target that aren't too expensive but that I only use once so it actually becomes very expensive. haha Especially when I look under my sink and see the plethora of "promising" hair products. Also a quick easy shine fix, I found is that Citrus Shine product. You just spray it on and instant gloss!

question- do you still run if you have a cold? I always wondered if it is bad to do that?

ALSO, i just posted about shampoo today, i swear by the stuff and the serum sounds like something your looking for. its $34 dollars bust lasts 8-9 months (you only use a dime to nickel size each time)

What do you do about working out and getting sweaty hair? Beuaty experts tell you not to wash your hair everyday, but that's simply not an option after a good work out. Thanks for writing about such an important topic for us avid gym go-ers.

kelsey said...

I've got to try that! washing my hair all the time is killing my shine!

RissyKay said...

I will have to try this! I love hair products! I just bought a new shine spray at Sephora, but it is not my favorite. Thanks!
